Elena Walch

Alto Adige, Italy
Elena Walch, a former architect, became a wine producer in 1985 after marrying into one of the oldest established wine families in Tramin. She took over two magnificent estates: Castel Ringberg, and Kastelaz, a steep, south-facing hillside which towers above the village centre of Tramin. Not surprisingly, the latter is highly regarded for its white wine made from the Gewürztraminer grape which took its name from the village Tramin.

Elena Walch set about transforming the vineyards along quality lines, replanting them with low-yielding but high quality clones of both international and local grape varieties. The wines reflect her professional approach and have scooped some of Italy’s highest awards, including the much coveted “Three Glasses” from Italy’s most influential wine guide, Gambero Rosso, three years in a row.

Star Winery - Gambero Rosso (Indicates that the winery has won ten 3 Glass Awards by Gambero Rosso. They are the elite, the aristocracy, in short the very top flight of Italian wine.)
